FAQs

Let’s address some of those burning questions.

General Stuff

Who are you?

Fair question! I’m Ian, an Englishman in Andorra, and I’ve been designing and building websites for over twenty years, since the days of Internet Explorer 6 and the dawn of Web 2.0. Back then I used HTML, Flash, something called Adobe Coldfusion, and eventually found WordPress.

I spent a good many years as Senior Web Design Editor for Envato, and nowadays build Webflow websites for clients of all sizes (apart from “Amazon size”—I don’t have any of those clients yet).

Who will I be working with?

Just me. You won’t be passed between departments or account managers — it’s a direct, friendly, collaborative process from start to finish.

What makes you different from other web designers?

It’s not uncommon for designers like me to lean on old-school design principles, combined with fast, modern development. No templates, no bloated code, all that good stuff.

But where I stand out (as boring as it may sound) is in customer service.

Many past clients have come to me after having poor experiences with other web designers—disagreements over what was built, disappointment in end results, sometimes incomplete projects. I put time and effort into making sure clients are supported and satisfied.

How involved do I need to be in the project?

As involved as you want. Most clients prefer a light-touch approach, during which they approve key stages and leave the rest to me.

Services

What exactly do you offer?

Custom-designed websites (no templates) built to be fast, easy to manage, and tailored to your goals. Design, development, CMS setup where needed, content structuring, and launch support are all included.

Do you redesign existing websites?

Absolutely. Whether it needs a full visual overhaul, a structural rethink, or platform migration, I can refresh your site without disrupting your business.

Can you help with branding or logos?

Logo design, light branding and visual direction, yes. I love dabbling in a bit of logo design. Take a look at some examples in my portfolio to get an idea:

Do you write copy as well?

Yes, but I’m not a professional copywriter. Where needed I can help write simple, clear, and effective website copy, although I’ll always suggest the bulk of content is the responsibility of the client.

Platform / Technical Stuff

What platform will my website run on?

I build everything with Webflow, unless the client specifcially requires another platform (like online stores being built with Shopify or WooCommerce). Webflow is a modern, visual development platform known for speed, stability, and clean code. It’s powerful, secure, and very user-friendly on the CMS side. I love it.

Why don’t you use WordPress anymore?

I do still maintain a number of WordPress websites, but whilst it’s flexible and highly capable, I find it often becomes plugin-heavy and requires a lof of attention. I prefer Webflow because it’s more efficient, faster to build on, robust, reliable, and easy for clients to edit.

Will I be able to update content myself?

Yes. Webflow allows client access so static content (text and images) can be updated. Plus, the CMS is designed for non-technical users, so adding blog posts, editing text, or swapping images is simple.

Would my Webflow website be secure?

Yes, Webflow websites are very secure. Webflow handles hosting, security, and server infrastructure for you, which means you automatically benefit from enterprise-grade protection without having to manage anything yourself.

Every site I build includes SSL by default, automatic updates, continuous monitoring, and built-in protection against common vulnerabilities like DDoS attacks.

Will my website be fast?

You saw the rocket on the home page right? Speed is a priority! I optimise design, images, structure, and interactions, playing with all possible levers to ensure your site loads quickly and performs smoothly.

Will the site work on phones and tablets?

Of course. Everything is built fully responsive so it looks great on all devices.

Can you add e-commerce functionality?

Yes, for simple to medium-sized shops. For large or highly complex stores, I can advise on the best platform.

What the heck is AEO?

Ah, you noticed that. AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) is about structuring your website so search engines and nowadays AI assistants, like ChatGPT, can understand and give answers from your content. It goes beyond SEO by focusing on clarity and organisation, plus there are some technical things we can do to websites already (like including an llms.txt file) but to be honest, nobody knows exactly what works yet.

Process & Working Together

What does the process look like?

Discovery → Wireframes/architecture → Design → Build → Revision → Testing → Launch. You’ll have input at each key stage.

How do we communicate during the project?

Email, videos, and occasional calls. Clear, simple communication without endless meetings.

What do I need to provide before we start?

Any brand assets, copy (if you have it), examples of sites you like, and a sense of your goals. I’ll guide you through the rest.

How many revisions do I get?

Enough to get things right. I don’t count revisions unless something is way outside the scope.

Can you help with migrating my old content?

Yes, I can import or rebuild your content in Webflow’s CMS depending on the format.

Can you work to a specific deadline?

Generally yes, as long as the scope is clear and the timeline is realistic.

Timelines & Delivery

How long does a website take to build?

Most projects take 2–6 weeks, depending on size and how quickly content is ready.

How soon can you start?

It depends on my current schedule, but I’ll always give you an honest start date.

What happens after launch?

We do a final walkthrough, handover training (which honestly isn’t complex), and ensure everything is running smoothly.

Pricing & Payments

How much does a project cost?

Price varies based on pages, complexity, and features. I’ll give you a clear, fixed quote before we begin, including Webflow’s hosting costs, so there are no surprise fees.

Are there ongoing costs?

Yes, costs like hosting, email, and domain will likely be payable by you annually—but they’ll all be made directly to the service provider rather than going through me. Additionally, I offer monthly support/maintenance and extra work, though this is entirely optional and flexible.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance?

Yes. I offer simple support packages for updates, tweaks, training, or new features whenever you need them.
